PFG futures brokers report that the company’s retail customers have demonstrated preference for electronic in grains as CBOT markets hit new highs in volumes and prices. Dow Jones reports on this story.

Russ Wasendorf, Sr., PFG’s Chairman and CEO discussed the impact of the CME/CBOT merger on the continuing transition of floor trading to electronic trading. He added that while there is staying power for the pits that it comes down to economics. Costs are much higher to maintain a trading floor as opposed to an electronic platform. He also noted that merger connects the CBOT products to the more reliable CME Globex engine.

PFG President, Neil Aslin, congratulated the leadership of the CME and CBOT on their merger and discussed the positive aspects for the futures industry in a series of interviews with Bloomberg, Dow Jones, FOW and the Financial Times.

The CME announced that it was going to repackage its data and increase fees. In response to this move, Russ Wasendorf, Jr., PFG’s COO, said that as long as there is value added in the repackaging, firms would be accepting. He also noted that this indicates a dangerous trend where the exchanges are starting to charge for online market data when they are in turn not incurring an expense to provide the information.

PFG's chairman and CEO was quoted in F&O Week about the CBOT's decision to prolong their fee waiver for market data for another year. Russ, Sr. points out that while the CBOT was not incurring any extra costs to provide this data to the customers, the FCM who creates the mechanism to deliver this data would incur costs as they would have to create the infrastructure.

The issue also noted the appointments of Brenda Cuypers as PFG’s CFO and Herb Kral as the director of managed futures for PFG.

He believes the recent success of the CBOT’s IPO was a good omen for other exchanges going public, including the NYSE’s March 8th public debut.

In a press conference held earlier today at the Futures Industry Association Conference in Boca Raton, FL, PFG chairman and CEO Russell Wasendorf, Sr. announced the latest developments in the Trading Technologies lawsuit alleging patent infringement against PFG. Both Russ, Sr. and Harris Brumfield, TT’s CEO, agreed that the BEST Direct™ system, established in the 1990’s, predates TT’s patents-in-suit. TT acknowledged that it has never asserted infringement against PFG’s BEST Direct™ system and that this product does not infringe on the patents-in-suit. While a previous version of the BEST Direct Fast system developed by TradeMaven LLC and distributed for a short time by PFG was found to be infringing on the patents-in-suit, the current version of BEST Direct Fast 3.0x has not been accused of patent infringement. PFG will continue to support and offer BEST Direct Fast 3.0x to all existing and new clients. TradeMaven and PFG continue to work together to provide an excellent, innovative entry screen under the brand name of BEST Direct Fast.
